CSR is in our DNA

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an official part of blooming; it runs through our veins and is an essential component of the blooming DNA. That’s why, since 2018, we’ve appointed an MVO advisor and formed a working group with colleagues from various departments to shape blooming’s social and societal policies.MVO, which stands for Maatschappelijk Verantwoord Ondernemen (Corporate Social Responsibility), means taking responsibility for societal issues such as pollution, climate change, working conditions, environmental care, and supporting everyone involved with your organization. While many companies focus on not exacerbating these problems, blooming takes it a step further. We aim to contribute to solving these issues, always considering the societal impact of our activities. This applies to all our processes, from procurement and production to sales, maintenance, HR, and marketing communications. That’s why MVO is not just a project for us; it’s a broad perspective on our core business activities.Below, you can see how blooming puts this into practice

our sustainable products

Lavital

We have recently initiated a new partnership at blooming for the mattresses where our guests enjoy a restful night’s sleep. Lavital provides a portion of the mattresses in blooming’s hotel rooms. Lavital creates beds, box springs, and mattresses from 100% natural materials. Lavital brings nature directly to blooming through its natural materials.

Koffiejongens

The coffee cups offered by blooming in the hotel rooms are from ‘De Koffiejongens.’ These cups are 100% biodegradable. Incredibly sustainable and incredibly delicious coffee. Contributing to a better environment has never been easier.

Recycled linen

At blooming, we work with recycled linen. In this way, we give linen and its raw materials a second life. Our recycled linen is sustainable because the ecological footprint is minimal.

De Groene Linde

In our blooming shop, you will find products from De Groene Linde, a local company from the area. De Groene Linde produces healing scent frequencies through essential oils, all-natural. Currently, you can find a delightful pillow mist in our shop that contributes to a better night’s sleep.

Green stay over

At check-in, our guests receive a door hanger to communicate their preferences to our housekeeping team. In the interest of sustainability, we kindly ask our guests to indicate their needs:
– Everything is fine, I’ll skip a day of cleaning
– Only fresh towels
– Not just yet, I’ll let you know if I need anything by 2 PM
– I would like to request cleaning

Coco-Mat

At blooming, our guests sleep on a Coco-mat mattress. This means a restful night’s sleep for everyone who sleeps on it. Coco-mat draws inspiration from Nature itself: the mattresses are made of exceptional sustainable materials, such as natural latex and horsehair, and composed of multiple layers designed to provide perfect body support.

Dopper

Every year, 8 billion kilograms of plastic end up in the oceans, including many plastic water bottles. Blooming and Dopper find this unacceptable. That’s why the hotel has turned off the tap for single-use plastic bottles. Since mid-January 2018, blooming has joined the international PET FREE movement initiated by the Dopper Foundation. All business guests staying at the hotel with a meeting package receive their own Dopper bottle, allowing them to refill tap water at eight water stations in and around the hotel.

The Good Roll

Our toilet paper from The Good Roll is made of 100% recycled paper, without chlorine, colors, or fragrances. So, no deforestation, less water usage, and reduced emissions, including CO2. Trees are for hugging, not for ending up as toilet paper. Through our purchase of The Good Roll toilet paper, The Good Roll can invest 50% of their net profit in building toilets for those in need.

Composting

All the swirl and compost waste from our kitchen and restaurant is collected separately. Daily, this waste is picked up by Scorlewald’s clients using a special cargo bike. The unprocessed waste goes to the compost heap in the Hoftuin, while the processed food waste is sent to the composting machine at Scorlewald.

Hydrophil Bamboo Toothbrushes

New at blooming hotel: the 100% plant-based and bamboo toothbrushes from Hydrophil. Blooming has not only added these toothbrushes to the shop but also makes them available to hotel guests who don’t have a toothbrush with them. The toothbrushes are water-neutral, vegan, and 100% fair.

Bamboo Slippers

Sustainable hotel slippers from Superseedic that are entirely plastic-free. The slippers are made from bamboo textile, linen, and wood fibers and are delivered in cardboard bags made from recycled paper. Additionally, they are produced in Europe and with as many local resources as possible.

Gulpener

From the tap at the blooming bar, you can enjoy Gulpener beer. De Vrije Brouwer aims to become the most sustainable craft beer brewery in Europe. Not only is the current brewery in need of replacement, but they also have the ambition to be fossil fuel-free by 2030.
