blooming gallery

At blooming Hotel, we are excited about the Kunst10Daagse (K10D), a special event where more than 300 artists exhibit their works at approximately 160 different locations in the lush artist village of Bergen and in the coastal village of Bergen aan Zee in North Holland. Traditionally, this cultural festival takes place in the month of October. This year, as well, blooming hotel opens its doors as a gallery during this beautiful month, providing a platform for both new and established artists. The Kunst10Daagse will take place from October 20th to October 29th, 2023

art to bloom and inspire

At blooming, we aim to provide artists from Bergen and its surroundings with the opportunity to flourish and share their talents. That’s why this year, we are opening the blooming gallery, where established artists from Bergen will co-exhibit with (personally recommended) new talent. In this way, we offer renowned artists from Bergen a platform to showcase their latest work while also creating a stage for emerging talent. Through collaboration with established artists, we provide these newcomers with the initial resources they need to showcase their work to the world.

Moon Zijp

wallflowers (objects)
She is a self-confessed multitasker and autodidact, possessing organizational talent, a touch of chaos, curiosity, impulsiveness, usually cheerful, solution-oriented, and practical.

During the K10D, Moon Zijp exhibited her ‘Wallflowers’ at blooming hotel. They were displayed individually on a long wall and in front of the windows, as well as clustered in an Assembly, an Outburst, and a Blossom Nest. The concept of the Wallflowers seamlessly aligns with blooming’s philosophy. blooming is constantly growing and blooming itself, and even its guests are encouraged to flourish during their stay. Her latest work “Al wegkijkend” is a contemporary statement:

A blindfolded little bird, frozen in radiance.
The magnified beauty of a butterfly chrysalis.
In line with Wallflowers.
The bold ones have half the world?
Wallflowers the other half.
Dare to look!

Inge Koetzier van Hooff

Inge Koetzier van Hooff is a painter and illustrator who has been working as a professional visual artist since 2005. Her works in ink, among others, are on display at blooming. On the book pages from her grandfather’s medical books, she has depicted plants and herbs. Her art revolves around the transmission of knowledge, genes, and love, and the depicted plants serve as nourishment, medicinal, or aphrodisiacal.

Inge alternates between phases of concentrated, minimalist work in ink or paintings with a subdued palette, and exuberant, figurative-abstract works in color and paint. Her (including digital) technique, combined with the use of often old sails, book pages, or wooden panels as canvases, is an integral part of Inge’s recognizable style.

Through participation in cultural exchanges, exhibitions, and artist residencies, she can pursue her passions: cultures, people, and art. By exhibiting her work, sharing it online, and teaching, Inge inspires people to exchange perspectives and create their own work. Her work has been acquired by museums and private collections and has been internationally exhibited at various art venues and events

Saskia Kerkhoff

Influenced by trends and clichés, we create images. Infused with a touch of pragmatism and a wink. Seduction in design makes portraits special, reportages narrative, and products appealing. Our photography is pure and custom-made, always tailored to your needs.

Lisa van Kooij

Lisa van Kooij began her painting career with expressive works (colorful still lifes on tables with busyness and disorder) and colorful abstract works. In addition to these paintings, she has also created classical, more realistically painted works. After much trial and error, it can be said that her passion lies in abstract art, or the modern. Within the arts she creates, Lisa draws her inspiration from the beauty of nature. She focuses on various landscapes, sunsets, and/or the beautiful colorful skies.

blooming meets new talent

When we talk about ‘new talent,’ we are not referring to age. We are talking about emerging artists who are at the beginning of their careers. This can happen at any stage in their lives because flourishing and creating has nothing to do with age. All new talent is connected to Kunstenaarsdorp Bergen in their own way and with the artists who have guided them.

Juliëtte van den Dool

Juliëtte van den Dool – van Hierden graduated in 2013 as a Visual Arts and Design Teacher from Windesheim University of Applied Sciences in Zwolle. A part of her visual graduation project included a mostly embroidered Facebook page with a projector projection, showing her embroidering herself. Fascinated by various crafts, Juliëtte has been teaching at various secondary schools for several years. Her goal is to convey her passion for handcrafts in her Arts and Crafts classes.

On average, we receive 65 messages and send 30 messages per day, but a 31-year-old like the creator receives an average of 150 messages and sends about 60 messages. Do we think carefully about what we send? Does fast digital communication positively contribute to our relationships? Do we still take the time to empathize and reflect? Embroidering letter by letter takes so much longer than simply sending a message. It makes you aware of the words you type so quickly. It provides time to think about rushed communication. Juliëtte has already embroidered dozens of messages.

Max Koetzier

Having an unreal idea and working it into a piece that you are truly proud of, to the point where it doesn’t even feel like work… that feeling ranks as the third most satisfying feeling for me. Both of my parents are artists, so this drive for creative expression largely stems from my upbringing. As a kid, I made art with a glue gun, as a teenager, I programmed video games, and now as a student, I am mainly involved in video. Video is an art form in which you can clearly tell a story with a lot of detail. The ability to bring a story to life is what interests me most about video; the next priority is audio. Music can have an immersive power, and integrating this power well into video work ranks as the second best feeling ever. The satisfaction you earn from creation comes closest to an external source of happiness for me. That’s why I don’t plan to stop 🙂

Normally, I choose to express myself creatively through video, but suddenly, I had a truly massive, super cool idea, so it’s going to be an installation after all. The installation is designed to make you pause for a moment and contemplate the bewildering concept of time. The only thing a person truly possesses is time; all abstract and concrete possessions are just exchanges of this time. Your taste in music only develops if you spend time on it, and the money in your bank account has ultimately only cost you time… How much time do you spend on activities that make you happy? And how much do you spend on stuff that doesn’t make you happy? Time is the most valuable thing we have, so take the time… to think for a moment… about your time.

Marleen Bouma-Kalshoven

visual work – photography
I studied photography back in the analog era. Afterward, I spent many years taking drawing and painting classes, and I didn’t pick up my camera as much. When my life came to a standstill during the COVID-19 pandemic, I started photographing again, but this time entirely digitally. Without expectations and without a specific goal in mind, I photographed whatever I came across. And I’m still on that path – playing with imagery.

Experimenting with form, structure, and color forms the basis of my visual work. I challenge and surprise myself by pushing towards abstraction or alienation. My works often showcase details, including interiors like Het Hof. Through the use of vibrant colors, strong visual elements, and/or intriguing compositions, I create my own representation of reality, sometimes with painterly elements.
